Mushroom worker's lung--two outbreaks.

چکیده
Stewart, C. J. (1974). Thorax, 29, 252-257. Mushroom worker's lung-two outbreaks. The clinical picture, immunological findings, and working environment of six mushroom farm workers who developed the characteristic features of mushroom worker's lung while handling pasteurized compost are reported and discussed. A specific antigen has not been identified. The sporadic occurrence of the condition suggests that the antigen is present only intermittently in the working environment in sufficient concentrations to cause alveolitis. Until such time as the constitutional, immunological, and environmental factors predisposing to the development of alveolitis are better understood preventive measures must be empirical.

Mushroom worker's lung.
Two cases of an acute chest illness occurring in mushroom workers are described. In one patient, who was severely ill, a lung biopsy was obtained which showed a pattern of alveolitis and interstitial fibrosis. The serum of both patients gave a precipitin reaction to an extraction of mushroom compost after spawning, but no reaction occurred to a variety of hay antigens used in the diagnosis of f...
متن کاملType III Hypersensitivity Reaction in Mushroom Growers
Some respiratory symptoms in mushroom growers such as mushroom worker's lung develop by inhalation of certain agents arising from the environment of mushroom cultivation. Recently we observed mushroom workers who had respiratory symptoms which might be type III hypersensitivity reaction to the antigen of Pleurotus floridae. We gave questionnaires to all the mushroom growers at one of the bigges...
متن کاملA Lindley-type equation arising from a carousel problem
In this paper we consider a system with two carousels operated by one picker. The items to be picked are randomly located on the carousels and the pick times follow a phasetype distribution. The picker alternates between the two carousels, picking one item at a time. Important performance characteristics are the waiting time of the picker and the throughput of the two carousels. The waiting tim...
متن کاملProtective value of dust respirators in extrinsic allergic alveolitis: clinical assessment using inhalation provocation tests.
Six subjects with budgerigar fancier's lung, pigeon breeder's lung, or mushroom worker's lung underwent identical paired inhalation provocation tests of 20 minutes to five hours duration (mean 2.3 hours) using a natural method of antigen exposure. For one test of each pair, the subjects were protected by the use of industrial dust respirators that incorporate electrostatically charged, resin-im...
متن کاملChanges in the Gene Expression Profiles of the Hypopharyngeal Gland of Worker Honeybees in Association with Worker Behavior and Hormonal Factors
The hypopharyngeal glands (HPGs) of worker honeybees undergo physiological changes along with the age-dependent role change from nursing to foraging: nurse bee HPGs secrete mainly major royal jelly proteins, whereas forager HPGs secrete mainly α-glucosidase III, which converts the sucrose in the nectar into glucose and fructose. We previously identified two other genes, Apis mellifera buffy (Am...
